Spike: Someone else should go with you.
Spike: I know they can’t. I know it’s a Slayer thing, and the whole point is you’re the head of state.
Spike: But someone should.
Buffy; That’s sort of what this little soiree tomorrow is about. Everyone has their own ideas about this and I guess we’re just gonna talk it out and come up with a unified plan or something.
Buffy: Or I mean if we can’t agree I guess we’ll just battle it out? I don’t even know.
Spike: Not about a unified plan.
Spike: You’re awfully set in yours.
Spike: Has to be about how to make yours work best. Even out the worst bits, get people checkin’ in. Checkpoints and — and those little portable speakers you talk into.
Buffy: I said “or something”…
Buffy: Walkie talkies?

Buffy: I know. I know you’re as strong as I am. I know my strength might not be enough to stop them in the end. But at least I’ll put up a bigger fight than she would. I don’t know what else to do. I couldn’t live with myself if I just stood aside while she went in my place.

Buffy: I don’t know, I just keep thinking if she gets caught they’ll kill her to cover up their own mishap. Or they’ll try and run some tests or something and she wont be able to break free the way I would. The Initiative had hella shady dealings and I’m afraid it’s going to be a repeat.
Spike: I wasn’t shabby on the uppercut when they stuck me in a holding cell and sawed my skull open.
Buffy: I know. I know you’re as strong as I am. I know my strength might not be enough to stop them in the end. But at least I’ll put up a bigger fight than she would. I don’t know what else to do. I couldn’t live with myself if I just stood aside while she went in my place.

Buffy: Or maybe, just maybe, I don’t want her blood on my hands.
Spike: But your blood’ll do.
Buffy: I don’t have to live with it if I’m dead.
Buffy: And I’m not dying, that’s the point. If she goes she will. I’m stronger.
Spike: What’re they gonna do to her that’ll kill her but not you?
Spike: Your sort’s got a lot more verbs on the fatal list than my sort, and I’m not talking about Slayers.

Spike: Oh.
Spike: Right.
Spike: If they try to get rid of her, they’re gettin’ rid of her as you. Your plan puts you as the one got rid of.
Spike: Get why you’re not waving a foam finger over it. Not big on martyrdom ‘less it’s you at the stake.
Buffy: Or maybe, just maybe, I don’t want her blood on my hands.

Buffy: Okay well I’m just gonna say this because I thought someone’d already told you. But there is another plan, one I completely don’t support.
Spike: Go on, have it out.
Buffy: Penelope Fairfax (the lady watcher- if you know her) goes and pretends she’s me and registers and I just get to watch as she probably dies because she’s not an actual slayer and I wouldn’t put it past these crazies to just get rid of her.
Spike: Oh.
Spike: Right.

Buffy: So there aren’t like any other plans you’ve heard of or thought?
Buffy: I mean just wondering. I guess you’re saying you haven’t.
Spike: Not of late, no.
Spike: Though let me reiterate the sewer maps and liquor.

Spike: I’m not exactly a trove of beat-the-system ideas.
Spike: Or, well, I am, but they’ve all got something to do with sewer maps and liquor.
Spike: It’s just, I said no jail.
Buffy: So there aren’t like any other plans you’ve heard of or thought?

Buffy: Oh, joke. I forgot about those.
Buffy: I know it’s the law. That’s why I’ve got to do it, everyone knows I’m a slayer. I can’t not. I know I could hide with you, but I don’t want to hide. It’s already hard enough with the whole world looking at me, I don’t think I could take it if the whole world was looking for me too.
Buffy: What do you suggest? I just let someone else go? Put on a glamour and call it a day? I can’t do that. I’m the only one capable of making it out of this relatively unharmed.

Buffy: Well they think they’re right, and that they could stop me if I really wanted to. I don’t know though if that’s what they’re up to, it’s just a hunch really.
Buffy: Good.
Spike: And the Army’s involved. Right.
Spike: Too late to quit? Settle in Boca Raton with an umbrella in your drink and call it a job well done?
Buffy: Maybe if the hellmouth was in Boca Raton and the world could actually stay saved for more than half a year.
Spike: Joke, love. That thing where you play pretend. I know you’ve got your sacred duty, Camelot up in sodding flames, one true hero and all that noise. You try and it’s great and we’re all real proud.
Spike: But this isn’t a demon and it isn’t an apocalypse. It’s the arm of the law. Law’s got a long arm.
